What Books Am I Excited For?
Here are 4 books that come out tomorrow that I think you would love it you picked them up to read. Whether you collect these issues or just read them they will be 4 of the best books out this week.
Seriously grab these 4 books because they will be the best reads of the week… Charles Soule and Cullen Bunn and the Axis event all in the same week have me excited to see what is in store for our Marvel Universe.
Monday Morning 9 to 5: Super Powered Normal Jobs
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have super powers? Yep me too, but what would it be like if the people in our every day lives had super powers too? What if it were so mundane and ordinary that everyone on Earth had a power and they had to go on living their everyday lives like it were no big deal? What current comic book superheroes would be best suited for normal blue collar jobs? That is the question at hand and each Monday I will bring you a different job that people hold everyday and I will suggest a few different Superheroes and/ or Villains that would be best suited for those jobs. I hope you enjoy, because this weeks job is:
Kid’s Birthday Party Magician
Imagine the magician at your kids party conjuring real magic and those balloon animals coming to life and playing with you children. Well if you hire Zatanna to do the party that is probably what is going to happen.
You will probably have a problem with the kid’s dads sticking around a little to long when the party starts but hey at least they will be entertained.
Throwback Thursday: Jim Lee and His X-Men
Duh Nuh Nuh Nah Nuh Nuh Duh Nuh Nuh Nah Nuh Nuh Duh Nuh Nuh Nah Nuh Nuh Nah Nuh!!! Saturday Mornings on Fox were the best. Watching X-Men cartoons, while playing with my Toy Biz X-Men figures like Wolverine and Trevor Fitzroy and Beast! Man o Man those were the days, SON!
Here we see the X-men facing off with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants!
Everything from the 90’s that was X-Men was JIM LEE, EVERYTHING. There was nothing that was mutant related that man did not have a hand in for like 8 or 9 years at Marvel. And it was Good! The Cartoon that was on fox on Saturday mornings was directly influenced by the Jim Lee Marvel X-Men book that debuted in 1991 with 10 variant covers to issue #1. Oh Marvel what were you thinking!? This comic book run brought Magneto, The Juggernaut, The Brotherhood to the forefront to a whole new generation of comic book fans. It directly made me the Marvel Zombie that I am now, and a perpetual Mutant Head that I will always be. The invention of Omega Red and insertion to the Super Soldier lineage along with the induction of Cyber and Omega Red into the Wolverine mythology was a strong bold move by Lee but one he stood by.
Omega Red was the first new major villain created by Marvel for the Mutants at the time in over 11 years. He is in my top 5 X-Villains to grace the comics… Deadpool Excluded b.c. Duh!
This is one of my favorite things that Marvel ever put out and it of course is of the Villains, my favorite aspect of the X-Men universe!!! This picture sans Omega Red and Deadpool epitomizes my childhood love of the Jim Lee X-Men universe. I am glad Jim Lee is at DC he is a god but I miss him very much on the one thing in comic books that I hold dear, X-Men villains.
Special Thanks to Sideshow Collectibles for bringing this 1/6 scale Deadpool into the world. This will be an EPIC WIN win the Deadpool community out there.
Here it is featured at SDCC 2014 via Emily
Also… Kotobukiya has announced a Deadpool Statue that is based off of the current Marvel NOW! costume he wears. Here are some pics of the statue… Thanks to Deadpool Bugle for the pictures.
Here is the Marvel Super Hero Masher of Deadpool due to hit shelves anytime.
Also if you are looking for an artist that captures the essence of Deadpool very well I recommend that you check out artist: Gavin Smith
Here is a Deadpool that I bought off of him and it is hanging on my Deadpool wall at home where it belongs. I highly recommend Gavin, he is an awesome artists and great guy!
Nerd MGMT Top 5′s: Comic Book Villains
We all have those Villains that stick with us. Are they the nemesis of your favorite hero? Are they scary and menacing? Are they misunderstood and deserve a chance to be good? Any of them will do. What are your Top 5 Comic Book Villains of All-Time? Any company, any decade, any villain. Whose your Top 5?
Thank Deadpool Its Friday!
…And it couldn’t have come one day sooner!!! Its been one heck of a week and this guy needed a Chimichanga break! Thanks to the Merc-with-a-Mouth they are a staple of many nerdy diets! A lot of things have been influenced by our friendly Merc Deadpool, there are so many merchandising facets that are being driven with Deadpool’s face on them it is hard not to see him any where you go. Especially cosplay at Comic Conventions around the world.
If you are looking for a website that is All Things Deadpool than you should shoot on over to my friend’s page The Deadpool Bugle. For the longest time he has brought you anything and everything Deadpool and the site has grown exponentially as Deadpool’s popularity has grown in the Marvel Comic Universe. Anything from a complete list of every comic Deadpool has ever appeared in, to a list of upcoming books Deadpool is in. Many many articles come through the Bugle and any information you have about Deadpool all you have to do it just send it and you’ll get credit.
There are a lot Deadpool Merchandise out there. You can find a lot of it at BigBadToyStore.com, 80stees.com, Amazon.com, Walmart, Hot Topic, and especially eBay. Everything from Zippo Lighters, Throw Blankets, and Stress Balls to Pint Glasses, Sun Glasses, and Fridge Magnets. Also everything you can think of in between.
You should head on over to the Deadpool Bugle and check out all of the news and information that they have over there. Also follow them on Twitter @DeadpoolBugle for information as well. There a lot more Deadpool fans than there were 23 years ago to say the least, and sometimes I am a little bitter that there are so many because he used to be a cult type following, but the bright side is… He is everywhere for a good reason, some of the best writers ever have taken a turn at him and they have each helped to build up his awesomeness. Thank you to Joe Kelly, Gail Simone, Daniel Way, Fabian Nicieza, and Gerry Duggan.
Well this week we do have the recording of the Nerd Management season 2 finale on Thursday night and wow what a season it was! Indiana Comic Con, C2E2, Free Comic Book Day with Mark Waid and Scott Snyder, Indy Pop Con, and E3 were all big for this upstart podcast and Nerdy News Website.
However, I do not have any books coming out this week that I am excited for. I am sure that there are many good books that you should look into though such as Original Sin #4 and Avengers #31 or also X-Men #15 and Uncanny X-Men #22. I think that both sets of books would be a good read, its just not anything I am going to spend money on myself this week. I normally would but I have a little thing called Florida to do. I have my Comixology on the Kindle Fire HD and ton of Orange Kickstarts in the cooler and we are headed down to paradise for a week.
So before I go I guess I could rant for a few… Why would I choose Comixology over paper comic books? I am a nostalgist at heart and I love my collection, so what would make me switch to digital books that are inheritly harder to navigate that a paper copy? COST! Why the Face do they think that people are going to want to pay $3.99 and $4.99 for books that aren’t that much thicker and contain an advertisement every other page? At least with DC if they go to a $3.99 book they are almost ad free. But Marvel (Disney) is switching everyone over on the $3.99 Creep to their new standard of pricing. Its unnerving and on the Nerd Management podcast we talked about what would be the “Cap” for buying a book? 4, 5, 6 dollars per book? Mine is $5 and I will not pay a penny more.
So with that I leave you on this New Comic Book Day with this check out the Original Sin story line because w/o spoilers I think I have a pretty good idea on why What’s His Face did the thing he did and what all of this is setting up to in the next Marvel Event Axis. Also check out our special 2 part E3 podcast episode over at Nerd MGMT. Also think of me as I am enjoying a nice relaxing week of nothing at all! As always…
