Nerd MGMT Top 5: Comic Book Issue #1’s

Ok here it is this weekend’s Nerd MGMT Top 5 List. We want to know your Top 5 Comic Book Issue #1’s

Monday Morning 9 to 5: Software Developer

From Nine to Five: Super Powers, Normal Jobs

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have super powers? Yep me too, but what would it be like if the people in our every day lives had super powers too? What if it were so mundane and ordinary that everyone on Earth had a power and they had to go on living their everyday lives like it were no big deal? What current comic book superheroes would be best suited for normal blue collar jobs? That is the question at hand and each Monday I will bring you a different job that people hold everyday and I will suggest a few different Superheroes and/ or Villains that would be best suited for those jobs. I hope you enjoy, because this weeks job is:

Software Developer

  • Reviewing current systems
  • Presenting ideas for system improvements, including cost proposals
  • Working closely with analysts, designers and staff
  • Producing detailed specifications and writing the program codes
  • Testing the product in controlled, real situations before going live
  • Preparation of training manuals for users
  • Maintaining the systems once they are up and running

What current superhero or villain would suit this position best? Hmmm. I have a pretty good Idea who I think would make a great Software Developer? Brainiac? Danger? no, I am thinking more along the lines of Forge from the X-Men!

Forge, from the X-Men, has the mutant ability to understand machines. He has the ability to create anything he can think of and that would come in very handy if he were a software designer for a large company. Forge would be the ultimate IT guy, no matter what problem you or your company have with their systems Forge can create a program to fix it. He could also build you a network out of any electronics he could find.

Imagine hackers attacking your company and there was nothing you could do to stop it. All you would have to do is call Forge and he would create a software to counteract the attack without even skipping a beat. This would save you and your company millions and millions of dollars. All Forge would have to do is collect buckets of cash. So next time you are going over the software any anything you have purchased, maybe Forge could have made it better.

Forge Forge working hard on that new Anti-Virus Software you asked for!

Throwback Thursday: WCW Galoob Action Figures

Throwback Thursday: Galoob’s WCW Wrestling Figures

Man o man did I love these figures. Even though they are static I didn’t know it at the time. All I knew was I could do all of the wrestling moves that I saw on TV with all of the characters I loved from WCW. Each figure was static in their “Finisher” move pose. So all of them were set to win at any moment.

I had almost all of them. Mr. Z, Arn Anderson, Ric Flair, Lex Luger, Sting, the Stiener Brothers, Vader and many many more. Now there were 2 different sizes there was the 5-6 inch and the 10-11 inch figures and they all came with the same gold WCW generic championship belt.

There were 2 different wrestling rings that you could get for them and I know that I had both. Back then wrestling was my life. You could get the Steel Cage ring or the standard WCW ring that was white and red. Both were so much fun and I know that I spent many many hours playing with all of my figures and probably GI Joes in there too.

These toys brought me hours and hours of enjoyment in a very fun way. I would sit and watch wrestling every monday night and play with my WCW figures and these people were superheroes to me back then. I owe a lot to these figures and I hope they brought you great memories too.

Woman Crush Wednesday: Rey

Woman Crush Wednesday: Rey

She is the main Protagonist in the Highest Grossing movie in the United Stated of All Time, and that only too 3 weeks to achieve. Rey is the ass kicking, force wielding, Millennium Falcon flying woman that is leading the new generation of Star Wars films into success.

Rey is not at anytime sexualized in The Force Awakens and stands toe to toe with Kylo Ren only days after even knowing she has the force within her. She is strong and tough and easily a future star in the Star Wars Universe. She lives on the desert planet of Jakku and scavenges just to make ends meet. But when the time comes she is ready for adventure and action and can hold her own with the best of them.

I am looking forward to seeing how much ass she kicks in the next 2 installments of the Star Wars franchise. Here is to one amazing woman, Rey (Sky-Sol-nobi?)

Monday Morning 9 to 5: Benihana Chef

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have super powers? Yep me too, but what would it be like if the people in our every day lives had super powers too? What if it were so mundane and ordinary that everyone on Earth had a power and they had to go on living their everyday lives like it were no big deal? What current comic book superheroes would be best suited for normal blue collar jobs? That is the question at hand and each Monday I will bring you a different job that people hold everyday and I will suggest a few different Superheroes and/ or Villains that would be best suited for those jobs. I hope you enjoy, because this weeks job is:

Benihana Chef

Wolverine would make an obviosuly successful chef at the restaurant Benihana. I mean He slices, He dices, and he’s the best at what he does, and what he does is make Onion Volcanoes.

He could have your order done in minutes, and deal with any customers that didn’t want to pay the bill. Imagine is Logan went through the Weapon X program, but never met Professor X. He would have to have some time of square job to fall back into. So this seems as likely a choice as an Avenger, right?

2015 Year in Nerdy Review #TBT

2015 was a HUGE year for Nerds, and there is no doubt that it will be one that we remember for many years to come.

In January we saw the announcement that Melissa Benoist was cast as Supergirl on CBS, David Tennant was cast as Purple Man on Jessica Jones, An all female Ghost Busters reboot was announced, Roman Reigns won the WWE Royal Rumble, and like that 2015 was kicked off with a BANG!

The casting of Benoist on Supergirl was a breath of fresh air to get a seemingly unknown on a network show like that was huge for her. The David Tennant news was awesome for Harry Potter and especially Doctor Who fans, and the Roman Reigns WWE Royal Rumble victory was quite a shock and disappointment at the time for WWE Fans.

In February we got the Daredevil trailer on Netflix, the A.T.O.M. suit for Ray Palmer’s character on Arrow was revealed, The Gigantic announcement by Sony and Marvel that Spider-Man was heading back to the Marvel studios, the first announcement of another DC/CW show (which turned into Legends of Tomorrow) was announced, Duck Tales coming back in 2017, and we endured the loss of Leonard Nimoy (Spock from Star Trek).

One of the biggest bits of information came early in the year when in February the announcement of the partnership of Sony and Marvel to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe was announced. This is such a huge blow to Fox, and such a great win for fans of the comics.

I cannot express enough the sadness the world felt when Spock passed away. The world cried for Leonard Nimoy and celebrated him as well, he was loved by millions of people he never met, and touched so many more.

March brought us Melissa Benoist in her Supergirl outfit, the first Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, Daredevil’s trailer for Netflix, Fox pushed the Fantastic Four reboot’s premier date back again, we got our first look at Jessie Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman v. Superman, Stephen Amell was announced as Casey Jones in TMNT 2, Ryan Reynold’s as Deadpool in costume for the first time, and Seth Rollins walks out of Wrestlemania 31 as WWEWHC.

April saw Dominic Cooper (Howard Stark) cast as Preacher, We got the Ant-Man trailer, We found out Marvel and Sony were skipping another Spider-Man origin story in the upcoming movie, Olivia Munn was announced to play Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse, Daredevil premiered on Netflix, NBC’s Constantine was cancelled, Star Wars: The Force Awakens got its 1st trailer, and so did Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Jared Leto’s first picture as The Joker, Legends of Tomorrow was officially announced as the CW’s Arrow/Flash Spinoff, and so much more than space to announce.

April 2015 was HUGE for Nerds. First off the announcement that Marvel and Sony were skipping the origin of Peter Parker was amazing because another origin story would have lagged the MCU that Whedon and Fiege have built. Daredevil premiered to HUGE ratings and praise on Netflix, which blew that genre wide open with its success. The internet couldn’t keep up with the debut of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, and that was most definitely foreshadowing of what was to come. Batman v. Superman’s trailer was overshadowed by the negative reviews of picture of Jared Leto as a tattoed Joker from the set of Suicide Squad.

May has Wolverine 3 as Hugh Jackman’s last Wolverine appearance, CBS’s Supergirl gets a trailer, Legends of Tomorrow gets a trailer, Captain America: Civil War was announced to contain a major death, Elektra was announced for season 2 of Daredevil, Bebop and Rocksteady were announced for TMNT 2.

June was amazing for video gamers with the official announcement of Fallout 4, The Punisher was announced for season 2 of Daredevil, The world was saddened by the passing of The American Dream Dusty Rhodes and Sir Christopher Lee, Tom Holland was cast as Spider-Man, and Guillermo del Toro dropped out of Justice League Dark.

June was a sad month with the passing of WWE Legend and WWF Hall of Famer The American Dream Dusty Rhodes. We here at Nerd Management were affected pretty hard when the icon of our childhood passed away. Famous actor Sir Christopher Lee will be missed as well, such an accomplished actor, who was one of the last people to see JRR Tolkien alive.

July saw a long list of castings such as Elektra, Aunt May, The Joker on Gotham, and we get a stand alone Batlflick from Director/ Producer/ Star Ben Affleck, The Walking Dead season  trailer premiered and so did Fear the Walking Dead’s, Jay Garrick was announced for Flash season 2, Suicide Squad trailer leaks, and Hulk Hogan gets fired from the WWE and destroys the childhoods of us all.

Hulk Hogan was caught on tape doing something he shouldn’t have, unfortunately that wasn’t the affair on tape that was bad. He was caught on tape dishing out racial slurs and homophobic slurs while on tape having sex with his best friends wife. TMZ released 8 minutes of the footage (blurred out of course) and Hogan’s career was gone.

August saw the world lose another WWF Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper, Deadpool’s Red Band Trailer debuted, Keiynan Lonsdale was cast as Wally West on The Flash, Constantine to crossover on Arrow, A picture of Mark Hamil in a beard hopped onto the internet and quickly vanished, The world lost Horror Master Wes Craven, and more.

The picture of Mark Hamil that appeared on the internet was that of him bearded and hooded. The speculation was from the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But before that was confirmed it was taken down and Disney tracked down all copies online and forced them away.

September was the premiere for all of the new shows and it started off probably one of the strongest TV Fall Schedule lineups that I can remember in my 32 years. Supergirl premiered amazingly, Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, Marvel’s: Agents of SHIELD all had solid starts. Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead both drew huge numbers as well.

October saw some casting announcements for various shows but nothing much happened in October. November on the other hand was great. Netflix’s Jessica Jones debuted to almost as great of reviews that Daredevil had prior. We got a huge TMNT 2 trailer, and Captain America: Civil War trailer broke the internet, and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice debuted to mixed reviews.

December started out strong with the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer, Independence Day 2, and Star Trek 3 trailers all debuting in the first few days. Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted and Bizzaro was announced for Supergirl on CBS. Deadpool got a new Red Band Trailer, and also appeared in his own 12 Deadpools of Christmas viral marketing campaign. Legends of Tomorrow announced a gay 1950’s Love interest for the White Canary.

December 2015 will forever be remembered for Star Wars: The Force Awakens for many reasons, firstly it was amazing and everything we had asked for and hoped for and then some. Secondly it broke every box office debut record and will continue to do so for a long time.

2015 was a HUGE year and you can see why. I forgot a lot of this stuff had happened, but looking back at how amazing 2015 was for Nerds and I just think outside of Star Wars 2016 looks like it will be even bigger. Good luck wallets because here comes the movie and comic onslaught that is 2016.

What Pro Wrestling Means to Me

For a lot of people Pro Wrestling is fake… It is seen as something that children and young adults watch, and people who are older that watch it are looked down upon as well. Well, it is fake, but so is every other TV show on television that has a story line. No one is disputing that, no fan of Wrestling argues in the opposition of that statement, yet so many people do not understand why people my age still continue to watch it. I am sure many of us have many different reasons for watching this scripted sport.

For myself Wrestling was real when I was younger. There was always the Hero (Face) taking on the Villains (Heels) and when it looked like the Hero was going to lose, he made a miraculous comeback and defeated the Villain. This was important for me growing up with a father that wasn’t around very often. These Heroes helped me overcome many things growing up that I didn’t have anyone to talk to about or listen to me. Every time Hulk Hogan or the Ultimate Warrior came back from the brink of defeat to recover and win against their opponent I knew that everything was going to be ok. With not having a male role model around these figures helped me understand the virtues that it takes to be a good person. No matter what they were like in real life, the only thing the children like myself saw was the heroes.

As I grew up and there were father figures in my life, wrestling was still steadfast. If I didn’t get along with someone the heroes I looked up to were there to comfort me, and show me that any evil can be defeated. Years went by and my home life got much better and I stopped needing them in my life, I slowed down on watching wrestling. School took over, girls took over, work took over, and growing up took over. No matter what was going on in my life however stressful or hectic, I could always turn on the WWF or WCW and watch my heroes vanquish their obstacles, and I knew that I could too.

Wrestlers such as Mr. Perfect, Bret “The Hitman” Hart, The Legion of Doom Hawk and Animal, Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, The Honky Tonk Man, Koko B. Ware, Sargent Slaughter, and so many more were such a huge part of my childhood I can never in my life repay those characters for what they mean to me. I still watch wrestling and as I don’t see as many people that have the Hero attribute as so many characters did back 20+ years ago. There are still characters kids can look up to and I hope that they mean as much to kids now as my heroes did to me.
