Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have super powers? Yep me too, but what would it be like if the people in our every day lives had super powers too? What if it were so mundane and ordinary that everyone on Earth had a power and they had to go on living their everyday lives like it were no big deal? What current comic book superheroes would be best suited for normal blue collar jobs? That is the question at hand and each Monday I will bring you a different job that people hold everyday and I will suggest a few different Superheroes and/ or Villains that would be best suited for those jobs. I hope you enjoy, because this weeks job is:
Major League Baseball Pitcher
This Week’s is kind of a Ringer since he already was one… Marvel’s Bullseye
… Bottom of the 9th 2 on 2 out 3-2 count and your team is up by one, with the stingiest Umpire ever. The strike zone has shrunk to a miniscule proportion and you only have your ecentric closer left. You can count on him to hit any target. The wind up the pitch STRIKE 3!!! Bullseye paints the black and gets the win.
Imagine that is how every pitch he throws is because, “I don’t miss” (Except when it comes to Daredevil). Bullseye would be a great baseball pitcher since you know Elektra can’t play baseball.
He was known as Ben Poindexter when he played Baseball and he was one out away from a perfect game no hitter and with his last pitch he placed it between the eyes of the batter, killing him. So maybe only bring him in when its necessary.
Nerd MGMT Top 5′s: All-Time Toylines
Thats right its a Toy Heavy Week, because we have SDCC on our hands. Alrighty you know you have in your mind those favorite toys you loved to play with as a kid or maybe even now love to collect (play with). Well here is your chance to tell the world what those were/are!!! What is your Top 5 Toy Lines of All-Time!?
We have had already some big announcements from Mattel, HASBRO, and Playmates. There were more but these are the 3 I care about so that is what I care to listen to. The last half of 2014 and 1st half of 2015 will be a real wallet-draining time period for me, but I am alright with it based on what I have seen so far.
Mattel and the WWE have teamed up for some amazing toys and the newest WWE cast member Sting joined Hulk Hogan and Daniel Bryan at the SDCC panel to announce their toyline. It looks like we’re going to be getting some new Ultimate Warrior Figures as well. Here are some pictures from SDCC courtesy of Toynewsi.com
Hasbro announced another Spider-Man Marvel Legends wave featuring some unique figures. I guess because of movie licensing issue we may never see a Fantastic Four Wave. But they did redeem their (in my eyes) failing 3.75″ line by giving us a Jim Lee Beast, Sandman, and Bishop. They are also putting out a great 2 waves of 6″ Legends figures such as Odin, Captain Marvel, White Iron Fist, and so many more to count. Here is a video from Marvelousnews.com and some pics.
Finally my favorite announcements came from Playmates at SDCC reguarding TMNT and all things Turtle!
Mutation TMNT Figures
– 9 Figures that you can swap parts between them (similar to HASBRO’s Marvel Supe Hero Mashers)
Role Playing TMNT
– Casey Mask w/ Bat
– More TMNT Masks with eye changing colors
– Casey Jone’s Zamboni w/ a new Casey Figure
– Hovercraft w/ Raph
– TMNT BLIMP!!!!!!
– Pizza Thrower with 2 seats!!! for Nick Toy Line
-Pizza Thrower for the Classics wave!
– Transforming Vehicles like a 3 wheeler and Motobike that turn into Hovercrafts
– 6″ Shredder and Kraang
– Tiger Claw
– Robo Foot
– Mikey as Turflytle
– Fly Baxter
– Serpent Karai
– Bebop and Rocksteady!!!!!! for the Cartoon Line!!!!!!
– 4 New Mystic Ninja Turtles
– Classic Comic Book Figures for the Cartoon Line
– Monkey Brains
Special Thanks to Sideshow Collectibles for bringing this 1/6 scale Deadpool into the world. This will be an EPIC WIN win the Deadpool community out there.
Here it is featured at SDCC 2014 via Emily
Also… Kotobukiya has announced a Deadpool Statue that is based off of the current Marvel NOW! costume he wears. Here are some pics of the statue… Thanks to Deadpool Bugle for the pictures.
Here is the Marvel Super Hero Masher of Deadpool due to hit shelves anytime.
Also if you are looking for an artist that captures the essence of Deadpool very well I recommend that you check out artist: Gavin Smith
Here is a Deadpool that I bought off of him and it is hanging on my Deadpool wall at home where it belongs. I highly recommend Gavin, he is an awesome artists and great guy!
Crystal Pepsi: Elixir of the Gods
Introduced in 1992 Crystal Pepsi appeared on the Soda Scene with a great marketing campaign and a unique catch; All of the Taste of your favorite soda, with none of the opacity. When this new cola appeared I was 9 years old and I was in awe of the “Science” behind this. I loved Pepsi and this was so cool when it arrived.
No one really thought about any side effects back then but looking back now; How Much Cancer do you think these caused? I mean soda is bad enough (I still drink Mt Dew) but a chemically engineered version of a soda, yikes. I guarantee this wouldn’t be able to be around now. I do remember seeing a Van Halen music video about Crystal Pepsi in fact here it is…
Man o Man those were the days… A simpler time. Just remember the late 80’s and Early 90’s were basically the same place, and that place was a Gold Mine for TBT’s.
Woman Crush Wednesday: Storm
Ororo Monroe or better known as Storm from the X-Men is an African Queen and a Goddess among her people in Kenya, Africa. Born to an African princess and an American Journalist in Harlem, New York and later orphaned in Egypt at the age of 6; Ororo learned very early to fend for herself and not let anyone take advantage of her. Even though she was created by famed Wolverine creator Len Wien for 1975’s Giant Sized X-Men it was actually Chris Claremont in 1976 who created Storm’s origin and is credited with her creation in the Marvel Universe.
Storm is a powerful woman in the Marvel Comic Universe and is one of the most well known Marvel characters in comics, let alone woman in comics. She ranks right up there in top appearances in X-Men comics and even was featured recently as the leader of the Ultimate FF. Storm was given a leadership role while Jim Lee was doing X-Men in the 1990’s as the leader of X-Men: Gold. She plays a pivotal role in Marvel for many years and is a true staple for women in comics.
Storm had an awesome phase in the 1980’s where she had a Mohawk and wore leather jackets, she was in a rebel phase where she really wasn’t in the X-Men and took over the mutant group Morlocks. This was a big phase for her and for women in the 80’s. It was a time in our society where homosexuals, African-americans, and women all were jockeying for a place to be accepted. In Marvel mutant was kind of a second name for being gay so Storm personified all 3 of those criteria in one. This was her strongest presence ever in the comics and it paralleled the struggles of all 3 of the minorities I just mentioned at the time in the 1980’s and early 90’s.
Storm is getting her own ongoing series in Marvel Now written by Greg Pak and that is very big for her and her fans, and let me tell you she has many. Storm is a strong willed very powerful mutant who takes nothing for granted and will not back down from anything. That is a great role model for women and young girls who are reading comic books and are looking for someone to connect with to read about. Well she is a major one that is only getting better. Storm: Goddess of Bad Assery
What Books Am I Excited For?
We have 3 pretty good looking books this week that look like they are worth picking up if you aren’t already planning on grabbing them. Marvel has had a pretty good run as of late of having at least 3 books that I am excited to read every Wednesday. This week we have 2 Deadpool books and a book that corresponds to the #WCW Woman Crush Wednesday I have coming out tomorrow here on So Nerdy It Hurts.
Deadpool v. X-Force #2 looks to continue the success that the first issue had. Written by Duane Swierczynski this mini series is retelling how Cable and the New Mutants met the Merc with a Mouth Deadpool by going back further in time to stop him from doing some stupid that only Deadpool can do. The first issue was pretty good even though I am a purest, this isn’t a bad re-imagining. I recommend this mini series to those who are Deadpool fans or just Marvel fans.
Deadpool #32 by Gerry Duggan is a continuation of the crossover from the Original Sin event. Dracula and his forces still have Deadpool and “Dazzler” hostage and
Bob, Blind Al, Outlaw, Preston is trying to figure out something important from Deadpool’s past. I am still just waiting for Duggan’s run to end, but I am surrounded by people who love his writing including Cullen Bunn. You can hear our interview with Cullen Bunn here on Nerd Management.
The last book this week that I am excited for is the new Storm series that is starting this week. It will be written every week by awesome writer Greg Pak. The tag for this book on Marvel.com is:
Thief. Goddess. Headmistress. Queen. The X-Man called STORM has always defied a single title. And her desire to better the world has never been limited to only her own kind. On a mission to foster goodwill and safeguard the mutant race’s continued existence in her own way, Storm will travel the globe, confronting man and mutant, god and monster and everything inbetween. She will overthrow tyrants, quell tsunamis and strive to see her dream for the world realized. She is STORM, a hero like no other….and the skies will tremble at the sight of their namesake.
This book coresponds to the #WCW Woman Crush Wednesday that is coming out tomorrow on here about Storm herself. Look for that tomorrow here on So Nerdy It Hurts and also over on NerdMGMT.com
All 3 of these books look great and I am know I will enjoy reading them after I pick them up. If you aren’t reading these 3 I recommend picking them up I know you will not be sorry.
